If you grew up anywhere in South Asia, dairy is part of your daily life. The morning chai, the lassi after lunch, the yoghurt at dinner — these come from farms that have, for the most part, been doing things the same way for generations. Paper diaries, mental math, voice notes between farmer and helper.
It works. But it leaks money — and dignity — every single day.
The hidden cost of "we've always done it this way"
A typical 30-cow dairy farm in Punjab loses an estimated 12–18% of potential revenue every year to silent inefficiencies:
- A missed heat cycle — that's 21 lost days of milk for a cow.
- An unrecorded vaccine — that's a sick herd six months later.
- An untracked feed cost — that's a year of "I don't know if I'm making money".
None of these are a farmer's fault. They are the natural consequence of running a complex operation on paper.
"I know my best cow gives more milk. I just don't know how much more."
— a farmer we interviewed in Sahiwal
Why now
Three things changed in the last five years:
- Smartphones reached the village mile. A 2 GB Android phone now costs less than a month of feed for one cow.
- Mobile data is cheap enough that even a small farmer can stay connected.
- Cloud + AI tools matured to the point where building a serious ERP for under-served markets is finally affordable.
The problem is no longer technology. It's whether anyone is willing to build technology for these farmers, not for industrial mega-farms in California.
What DairyCare actually does
One app. Six core jobs:
- Animals. Every cow, buffalo, goat — with photo, tag, breed, history.
- Milk. Three sessions a day, per animal or whole herd, voice or tap.
- Health. Vaccines, diseases, vet visits — with reminders that nudge before something goes wrong.
- Breeding. Heat detection, AI tracking, calving — never miss a cycle again.
- Finance. Income, feed, vet bills — your real per-cow profit.
- People. Owner, manager, worker, vet — assign roles and see who did what.
Our principles
We made a few promises to ourselves before writing a single line of code:
- Affordable forever — pricing in days of milk revenue, not Silicon Valley dollars.
- Works offline — because village data signal is real and we won't pretend otherwise.
- Your language — Urdu, English, Punjabi today. Pashto, Sindhi, Hindi soon.
- Your data is yours — export anytime, encrypted at rest, never sold.
